Marinara Sauce

You don't need a lot of effort and ingredients to make a delicious zero point marinara sauce. I make this on meal prep day and use it throughout the week for 2 ingredient dough pizza, raviolis, grilled chicken pizza and other stuff.

Recipe makes about 10 cups of sauce. Serving size is 1 cup.

Yield/Servings: 10 Serving Size: 1 cup Total Cook/Prep time: 1.5 hours

Ingredients

  • 3 cans whole peeled plum tomatoes (28 oz)
  • 1 medium onion
  • 10 fresh garlic cloves
  • Handful of chopped fresh basil (or 2 tsp dried basil)
  • 3 tbsp red wine
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 - 2 tsp olive oil

Directions

In a food processor, puree the whole peeled tomatoes (with juices) and set aside in a bowl

Chop the onion

Add the olive oil and onions to a medium sauce pot (low heat)

Allow the onions to heat for about 3 minutes, or until they become slightly translucent

Remove the skin of the garlic cloves, then mince each clove as finely as you can

Add the garlic to the pot and mix it into the onions

Continue to heat for about 1 minute

Add the tomato paste and red wine to the pot and stir to combine

Heat until the tomato paste is dissolved (about 2 minutes)

Add the pureed tomatoes

Let the sauce simmer for 1 hour

Add the basil to the sauce at the very end and mix it in to combine

Store the sauce in a large mason jar or container
