I don't love using artificial sweeteners, but every now and then I do it if it's a special treat. Birthdays are a special treat. :-)
Serving size is 1/10 th slice of the cake.
Mix and bake cake according to box directions, but replace oil with the applesauce.
I used two - 8" round pans to make this a two layer cake
Allow cake to cool completely (about 1 hour)
Place the first layer onto a cake plate
Put the cool whip in a large ziplock bag.
Cut the tip of the ziplock bag
Twist the larger open part of the bag together and hold it closed with your hand (so you can pipe the cool whip onto the cake).
Line the inside perimeter of the first layer of cake with a squeeze of cool whip (to create a little barrier so that the bananas and strawberries do not seep out the sides of the cake)
Place the sliced strawberries and bananas in the center
Place the top layer of the cake over the strawberries and bananas
Pipe remaining cool whip over the top of the cake.
Use a knife to spread it evenly over the top of the cake, then along the sides.
Slice and enjoy.
